Shirley Boyd

A native of Berlin, Ohio, and current resident of Columbus, Shirley Boyd graduated from The Ohio State University in education in 1954. In 1963 she joined the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation working in youth activities and was promoted to Director of Youth Activities in 1973. For 35 years she worked with Ohio’s rural youth developing leaders, instilling self-confidence, recreation and lifelong social skills.

For 15 years with OFBF, she also held the post of Director of Women’s Activities teaching, challenging and encouraging rural women to take active roles in their farm operations and agricultural organizations. During her time with Farm Bureau, she participated in several International Rural Women in Agricultural conferences.

Boyd’s own leadership included board seats on the National Safety Council. Ohio Farm and Home Safety Committee and Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Columbus. She is a member of the Ohio State Fair Hall of Fame and the National Safety Council awarded her the first ever Honorary Life Membership. Boyd is a life member of The Ohio State University Alumni Association and a charter member of the OSU, College of Education Alumni. She has stayed close to her family and agricultural roots throughout her life.
