
Each year, the Ohio Agricultural Council offers up to three (3) $1,500 scholarships annually to Ohio high school seniors who plan to pursue a degree in agriculture and up to three (3) $1,500 scholarships to undergraduate college students from Ohio who are currently pursuing a degree in agriculture.
The OAC is pleased to announce the 2022-23 recipients of the Scholarship Program:
Faith Hagelberger is senior animal science student at The Ohio State University. Her passion for food animal management and medicine led to her educational focus and career choices. Upon graduation, Faith plans to attend veterinary school, focusing in food animal medicine and reproductive technologies.
Haven Hileman is a sophomore at The Ohio State University. She is the daughter of Ed and Robin Hileman. Through involvement with organizations like 4-H, FFA, and Farm Bureau, Haven has discovered a love for advocating and educating others about the agriculture industry. Haven is majoring in Animal Sciences at OSU and, upon graduation, plans to become an agricultural education teacher and raise livestock on her family farm.
Zane Ortman is a recent graduate of New Lexington High School and an incoming freshman at The Ohio State University. The son of Matt and Jennifer Ortman, Zane grew up raising and showing market and show poultry, purebred show rabbits, and dairy cattle. Through FFA, he developed a passion for agricultural education with a natural resources focus. Upon graduation, Zane has his sights set on a career as an agricultural educator.
Bethany Starlin grew up on her family’s livestock farm in Logan, Ohio. The passion for agriculture that was instilled within her at a young age led her to study Agricultural Communication and Agricultural Systems Management at The Ohio State University. Upon graduation, she plans to work in the realm of precision agriculture and promote effective progress in bettering the precision agriculture technologies available to farmers worldwide.
Ashley Tate is a recent graduate of West Holmes High School and an incoming freshman at The Ohio State University. The daughter of Russell and Laurie Tate, Ashley developed her love for agriculture on the family grain farm. This love and passion led her to major in agricultural communications and minor in agribusiness. Upon graduation, Ashley looks forward to promoting agriculture and working closely with farmers and agricultural businesses.
Skyler Ward is a recent graduate of National Trail High School in New Paris, OH and an incoming freshman majoring in Animal Science at Lake Land College. She plans to attend transfer to a land grant institution to achieve her bachelor’s degree, then continue to graduate school. With her education and research, she hopes to provide innovative solutions to livestock production in a sustainable way.
Scholarships are selected based on academic record, leadership qualities, community involvement and responses to application essay questions. Scholarship recipients are also provided a one-year complimentary student membership in OAC.
Scholarship applications for the 2023-24 school year will be available at www.OhioAgCouncil.org in fall 2022. Completed applications must be returned to the Ohio Agricultural Council by February 15, 2023.
