Martin L. Ruetenik

Martin L. Ruetenik, Cuyahoga County-pioneer in the cultivation of vegetables under glass. Mr. Ruetenik had a keen sense for plant characteristics, an innovator with soil tests, irrigation, fertilization, and other new practices.

He was the first to use steam sterilization of soil and mechanical refrigeration…Master Farmer in 1927, trustee of Heidelberg College and president of the Vegetable Growers Association of America . M. L. Ruetenik the “Celery King” commanded respect by giving respect.
