Harold L. Porter

Harold Porter, Fairfield County. began his 44 years of conscientious public service in 1939. His illustrious Ohio Department of Agriculture career included many achievements which were in the best interest of agriculture and the general public.

He was instrumental in the drafting of legislation which resulted in the enactment of Ohio’s Pesticide Use and Applicator’s Law, considered to be one of the best in the Nation. He also had considerable influence in the revision of 12 other agricultural laws which the Division of Plant Industry enforced under his guidance. In 1983 he retired, as Chief of the Division of Plant Industry, a position he held for 15 years. He has received numerous awards including the USDA’s Award for Superior Service and the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture’s Honor Award. He served as President of the National Plant Board in 1969-1970
