Like agriculture and many other industries, restaurant leaders across the country have faced insurmountable challenges while supporting their businesses and employees through the pandemic. From the impact of COVID-19 to business-restricting health orders and mandates to food and supply chain issues and price increases to severe workforce shortages – Ohio restaurant owners and operators have faced the greatest challenge of a generation.
Join us as we hear from John Barker, president and CEO of the Ohio Restaurant Association, about the state of the Ohio restaurant industry, its future outlook, and how restaurants and agriculture can work together. Matt Reese, editor of Ohio’s Country Journal, will moderate this timely discussion.

John Barker is President & CEO of the Ohio Restaurant Association, a business trade association with a mission focused on promoting and protecting the restaurant, foodservice and hospitality industry. Previously, from 1996-2014, he was a member of the executive leadership team and Senior Vice President & Chief Communications Officer at The Wendy’s Company, one of the largest restaurant companies in the world. The Wendy’s Company owned many brands including Wendy’s, Tim Hortons, Arby’s, Baja Fresh, Café Express, Pasta Pomodoro and The New Bakery. Barker previously worked at American Greetings Corp., The Plain Dealer newspaper in Cleveland and in other media organizations. He teaches business strategy and marketing at The Ohio State University Fisher College of Business.
