Douglas R. Stanfield

Born on a farm in Logan County, November 26, 1903, Mr. Stanfield retained a strong interest in agriculture. After twenty years in teaching and school administration, he joined the staff of the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation. He served the organization as Vice President in charge of legislation. In 1955, he was named Executive Vice President where he served with distinction until his retirement in 1968. Under his leadership, Farm Bureau membership increased and member participation in the organization’s activities multiplied.

During his years with the farm organization, Stanfield gave strong leadership to programs in marketing, vocational education, agricultural education and research and to legislative action to keep taxes from forcing farmers off the land.

Stanfield was nationally recognized and served both Presidents Kennedy and Johnson on advisory assignments. He was recipient of many awards and citations including Farm Bureau’s and the Ohio Council of Farmer Cooperative’s distinguished service awards.
