Clarence Durban

Clarence Durban, of Plain City, is a genuine conservationist. His more than 40 years of experience as a grain farmer has provided him with expertise in soil and water conservation allowing him to make a difference.

As president of the Ohio Federation of Soil and Water Conservation Districts, Durban was actively involved in formulation, passage and implementation of Ohio’s pollution abatement program. In the 1970s, Durban contributed to changes in channelization programs to reduce negative environmental impacts. He also contributed to changes of drainage ditch laws. As Vice President of National Association of Conservation Districts, Durban assisted in drafting conservation provisions of the Food Security Act of 1985. He was invited to the White House by President Reagan twice to discuss the provision’s affect on agriculture and conservation of natural resources. At the request of President Reagan. Durban witnessed the signing of the 1985 Food Security Act.
