Charles E. Thorne

Charles E. Thorne, Wayne County-first director of the Ohio Agricultural Experiment Station, serving from 1887-1921. He was a pioneer in crop rotations, soil testing and conservation, and use of fertilizer and lime.

Mr Thorne established first soil fertility plots at Wooster in 1892 and was a prolific writer of bulletins and articles in the farm press until his death at age 92.
