Wilbur “Bill” Stuckey

Bill Stuckey, 1911-1981, formerly of Franklin County was a leader in the agriculture community for nearly a half century. Bill taught vocational education from 1933 until 1945 when he was named farm safety specialist for the College of Agriculture, Cooperative Extension Service, The Ohio State University. He was considered to be a pioneer in the farm safety movement as his appointment was only the second such position to be created in the United States.

During his career at The Ohio State University, Bill developed and led the campaign to gain national and international acceptance for the orange “slow moving vehicle”emblem which is widely used. His influence on the national level was very visible as he was a charter member of the National Institute For Farm Safety and served as its President. He also served as President of the National Safety Council Farm Conference.
