Fred H. Johnson

Fred H. Johnson, Columbiana County, is a farmer specializing in beef cattle. For over 40 years, his leadership and advancement of the beef cattle industry have aided in continuing the high degree of consumer acceptance of beef.

He is the founder and owner of Summitcrest Farms which is the second largest Angus operation in the world. Summitcrest Farms, headquartered in Summitville,Ohio, has branch operations in Nebraska and Iowa totaling 17,200 acres. He has been a leader in the advancement of the genetics and marketing of Angus cattle and Angus beef.

He has been an outspoken advocate of performance testing and was a strong supporter for the establishment of the Ohio Bull Test Station. He was influential in passing enabling legislation establishing Ohio’s Purebred Show and Sale Fund. He is considered the founder of the Certified Angus Beef Program.
