George R. Johnson

George R. Johnson. Columbus, served as chairman of the Department of Animal Science at The Ohio State University from 1958-1983. As chairman, he worked to unite the Ohio livestock interests with those of the academic programs of the university, cooperative extension and research activities.

Within the Department of Animal Science, he organized specialty faculty groups including teaching, research and extension personnel. He researched discoveries in extension and teaching programs, discussed existing problems and conducted research to solve the problems.

He was a member of the American Society of Animal Science, serving as chairman of the Extension Section, vice-president and president of Midwestern Section and national director. Awards include Distinguished Service Award from the Ohio Sheep

Improvement Association, Outstanding Service Award from the Ohio Pork Producers Council, Honorary State Farmer Degree from the Ohio FFA Association and the Meritorious Service to OSU College of Agriculture Award by the College Alumni Society.
