Fred H. Deering

Fred H. Deering, Monroeville, Ohio, has been a dedicated and exceptional public servant to the Ohio agricultural industry. As a producer, Deering affected Ohio’s agriculture and rural communities most as he served in the Ohio General Assembly from 1973-1992. Writing more than 80 bills and many amendments he co-chaired and implemented the Current Agricultural Use Value (CAUV) law. Deering sponsored legislation that established guidelines to control non-point source pollution, revised the Ohio Drainage Laws, introduced the Ohio Pesticide Law and initiated research and promotion funding for the Ohio wine industry.

Serving as the Ohio House Finance Chairman, he provided leadership to many facets of Ohio’s agricultural industry as he fostered equitable funding for state agricultural and extension agencies.
